Your Best Life: Tactics, Tools and Insights to Create a Life of Fulfillment, Joy and Abundance
One of the best, most useful books I’ve read all year, Your Best Life: Tactics, Tools and Insights to Create a Life of Fulfillment, Joy and Abundance, is more than just your typical self-help book. It’s a life-changer. Author Mike X nails each and every topic he writes about with humor, anecdotal stories, and factual information. Each chapter can be read as a standalone. The topics are clear, concise, and to the point. Since finishing this book a few days ago, I have already referenced it several times. And as someone who has read a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of self-help books, this one is unlike any I have ever read before. There are really not enough good things I can say about this book.
Readers will feel like Mike X is actually talking to them while reading this book. His casual writing style makes you feel like you are having a conversation and not just being told things. Many times while reading this book, I found myself nodding or saying aloud, “Exactly! Now that totally makes sense!” In the first chapter, the idea of getting stuff done and how our lives are built around our daily productivity really hit a cord for me. Focus on being happy instead of doing things? Now, that’s a foreign concept to almost everyone I know. But after thinking about it, it really makes sense. And that’s when things start digging deeper. Your Best Life delves into our decision-making processes, our definition of success, what happiness means (and what people who are actually happy have in common), the Law of Attraction, and my very favorite topic, dopamine. I ate the chapters on dopamine up like a kid in a candy store. Mike X uses two well-known people, Elon Musk and Buzz Aldrin, to illustrate the fact that dopamine is not the “reward chemical” as so many of us think it is. Dopamine is actually our motivation neurotransmitter! It’s all about the future and making the future better. Our dopamine levels go up when we are motivated to do something. The problem is, once we do that something, our dopamine may dramatically drop. Then what? Read this book to find out.
Your Best Life will make its readers think and rethink everything that they thought they knew about or wanted in life. For anyone who wants to level up in life, this is the book for you.
