Woke Up Like This: A Novel

High school senior Charlotte Wu wants to plan the perfect senior prom that’s been on her bucket list since she was thirteen years old. The only problem is, her arch-nemesis, J.T. Renner, isn’t making the prom planning easy for her. An unexpected accident changes the course of Charlotte and Renner’s relationship forever.

While the overall story is a bit predictable, it is a very cute teenage rom-com story filled with a whole lot of teen drama. This book is a feel-good, easy read that might transport you back to high school. The premise of the book sort of reminds me of the movie, 13 Going On 30.

I really enjoyed the love/hate banter between Renner and Charlotte, but I personally found both characters annoying at times. I was glad to see Charlotte’s personal growth throughout the book. I liked how she finally opened up and became more forgiving and understanding toward the end, and I was happy when she learned to speak up for herself more.

This is a great book for anyone who loves a contemporary YA rom-com read!
