The Soul of Gift Wrapping: Creative Techniques for Expressing Gratitude, Inspired by the Japanese Art of Giving

The Soul of Gift Wrapping combines the best of Japanese and American cultures. It is not uncommon for people to enjoy receiving something reminiscent of a gift, but the intensity is subjective. In American culture, giving and receiving gifts (bought or made) doesn’t emphasize the outside or appearance (unless it’s professionally wrapped)—the joy comes from what is hidden beneath (and it better be good!).

In Japanese culture, this idea is the opposite, with the manner, style, technique, and materials used for the wrapping held to as high (or higher) a standard. Megumi Lorna Inouye shows off seemingly complicated and fragile gift wrapping uncovered as doable and inspiring. Utilizing fabric, paper, and whatever is lying around the house, the projects are environmentally conscious and frugal for the reader.

Each gift-wrapping idea is visually appealing and brings confidence to the reader to attempt and show off to their friends and family. New and seasoned lovers of the arts and cultures will find much worth reading in The Soul of Gift Wrapping.
