Suck a Little Happy Juice: An Irreverent, By-the-Skin-of-Your-Teeth Guide to Being an Indie Author

The book’s title is quirky, but it’s the subtitle that tells you what you’ll find in these pages: practical, humorous writing advice from an experienced author. Sure, there are plenty of other writing manuals out there, but this one delivers sound counsel in bite-sized chunks that may also have you laughing out loud.

Each of eight sections opens with a bit of philosophy and then guides “indie authors” through stages: before you write, diving in, tricks and tips, editing, marketing, and dealing with reviews. One important section promotes forming bonds with other local writers as J. Scott Coatsworth himself has done. Originally written as blog posts, each entry can stand alone so that readers may dip in wherever best suits them.

Although much of his advice is aimed at writers of genre fiction, he offers much-needed encouragement to ALL writers, whether you’re feeling stuck on a draft, uncertain of how to perform your first public reading, or needing to figure out a marketing plan. A glossary of terms and recommended resources round out this pragmatic, upbeat guide which budding writers will turn to again and again.
