Leave the Lights On is a novel about a woman named Beatrice who is married to a wealthy man named Josh. The story alternates between Beatrice’s life now and her life in the past as a young woman named Emma who was tricked into living with a family who thought the government was in a conspiracy to capture them because of the information the man, Gabriel, had acquired relating to nuclear science. After Emma escapes the family, she spends her life changing her identity and ends up in a small town in Maine where she works at her husband’s company doing renovation plans.

The book is well written and the story is exciting. Author Liv Andersson does a great job with character and setting development and the pace of the book is perfect. Beatrice/Emma’s backstory is just enough to leave readers with an uneasy feeling in the present-day telling of the story. The book pace speeds up as the end approaches and the twist comes at readers quickly and with enough shock value to make you slightly gasp. This is a solid read that fans of suspense thrillers will love.
