Wounds by Sara Blaedel is a mystery that starts off with a man’s body being found. The man’s body has an odd pattern of slices in his skin, and soon, the detectives match the style of the cuts to a local artist who does the same thing to animals. The problem? The artist is in a coma. In a parallel thread, the defiant daughter of the Chief Constable, Margrethe Dybbøl, goes missing. This worries Dybbøl, since she has been working on the case of another missing girl named Amalie.

Although there are quite a few characters to remember in this book, the story reads well and is not difficult to follow. I felt that the story slowed down a lot in the middle of the book, which made me put it down and not want to continue reading. I would urge readers to keep going, though, because everything is tied together neatly in the end. The one thing I noticed is that none of the characters are particularly likable. They’re all a little whiny and self-centered.

Overall, the story was decent, but the characters could have used better development.
