Woman Down: A Novel
I wish I could say that I really loved this book and that it had me intrigued from cover to cover, but the truth is, it really didn’t. Woman Down is about an author named Petra who falls into a slump after her book is adapted into a screenplay. She goes to a town where she rents a cabin to get away and write; however, this time she is in a different cabin than she is used to. While there, a police officer named Saint knocks on her door and says there was a police chase and a casualty on her street. The strange thing? She can’t get him out of her mind because he looks like the character she is currently writing about—a police officer named Cam. From there, Petra becomes close with Saint, who agrees to help immerse her in some character role play. Things turn suspenseful when Petra’s husband and daughters show up to the cabin. I loved the idea of the story, but Petra ended up being indecisive and just plain annoying. The ending was so anticlimactic that I wanted to pull my hair out. What a letdown.
