Waffle Can’t Decide
If you are a parent, you know that one of the hardest things a child can do is make a choice! Especially when it’s the first time, when they are just reaching a new and exciting developmental milestone, or when they have to choose between two things they really want. It’s an important life lesson, and it’s one that even the big kids who act like adults still struggle with. For instance, this reviewer can’t decide what he likes about this book best. Its excellent and colorful imagery, or its heartfelt and insightful message. Maybe both… Probably both!
Written by Brenda S. Miles and illustrated by Monika Filipina, Waffle Can’t Decide is a charming and engaging tale of the titular character Waffle as she attempts to make a host of small decisions. In a comforting book, the reader is reminded that choices aren’t easy things to make and that it’s okay to have issues deciding what color socks you want to wear, how you wish to spend your day, and what flavor of ice cream you want to eat.
The book reinforces the positive message that Waffle and all children like her don’t need to feel isolated or left out. The book also provides some wonderful resources and tips in the back for parents and older kids to help out as their own “Waffles” as they make their way in this fast-paced world of endless decisions.
