There Should Have Been Eight
Seven friends come together for a reunion at a remote estate in New Zealand’s Southern Alps. They’ve been friends since they were teenagers, but haven’t been close since they lost Bea, the eighth member of their group, almost a decade ago. The weather turns, effectively trapping them in this gothic mansion, and things turn deadly. Accidents start to happen and secrets begin to spill out. Rage has been building for ten years and someone’s going to make sure this group never forgets There Should Have Been Eight.
I absolutely loved this story. The plot is nothing new, with a group of people, full of secrets, trapped in a gothic mansion by the weather, being picked off one by one; however, it is fantastically written, making it fresh and exciting. The entire story is told from the point of view of Luna, who is slowly losing her sight, which makes everything even more creepy as you feel like you are in the dark as much as she is. Overall, this is a very atmospheric thriller, beautifully written, that will keep you guessing until the very end. I highly recommend you add this to your reading list.
