The Woods are Waiting: A Novel

The town of Blue Cliff has seen its share of tragedy. For the last hundred years, children have been taken from the Hickory Woods, only for their bodies turn up weeks later. Cheyenne left five years ago, after the last three children were taken. She returns when another child goes missing. The town attributes the disappearances to the Hickory Man, an old Blue Cliff legend. The children always disappear in threes, so Cheyenne knows it’s only a matter of time before the next child gets taken. The Woods are Waiting and Cheyenne and her friends will need to face the superstitions to discover the truth of what really happened to all those children.

I could not put this book down. It’s like a supernatural story wrapped up in a murder mystery. While it was easy to spot the clues and discover the real culprit early on, the atmosphere and unknown motive made it well worth reading till the end. I highly recommend this. I loved the ending that makes you wonder if it’s really over. I also loved the dynamic between Cheyenne, Natalie, and Jack. They would make a great investigative trio, solving all the mysteries of Blue Cliff.
