The Silent Paths of Night
The Silent Paths of Night is book two of bestselling author David R. Slayton’s The Gods of Night and Day series, and a follow-up to the award-winning Dark Moon, Shallow Sea. This novel picks up where the previous novel leaves off. Even though this is part of a series, Slayton provides enough context about previous events that the novel works as either a stand-alone read or an entry point into the series. Each book in this series so far follows its own plot while connecting to the larger arc. For fans of Slayton’s previous works, the characters feel familiar while having their own distinct personalities.
The Silent Paths of Night has a decidedly darker feel than book one of the series and any of his earlier works. This is not a bad thing. While Dark Moon, Shallow Sea felt shadowy. The Silent Paths of Night plunges the reader into the gloom and dread of treading the trails on a moonless night while sensing an unknown presence behind you. Slayton’s latest work pushes beyond fantasy into dark thriller territory.
