The Pomegranate Gate (The Mirror Realm Cycle)
People who like history-based fantasy will enjoy this book, but if you are not a fan of historical fiction or historical fiction combined with fantasy, you may want to keep on browsing. This book is good, not great, for the type of book it is and it appeals to readers who like certain type of books. It is the first book of a new trilogy based on Jewish folklore and combines elements of the Spanish Inquisition. The story reaches beyond the mortal realm, which might be for the best.
The story follows Toba Peres and Naftaly Cresques. Both of them live in different realms. Peres lives in the human realm and is Jewish. One day, the Queen orders Jews to either convert or leave. Peres keeps an amulet in defiance of the order. Cresques lives in a mirror realm called Mazik and they must protect a treasure. Peres will stumble onto a pomegranate grove and stumble into Mazik and become involved in a realm which is even worse than the one they left and must work to stop the rulers of Mazik from taking over their world.
