The Paris Apartment: A Novel
The Paris Apartment tells the story of a young woman named Jess who goes to stay with her brother, Ben, in his Paris apartment. When Jess arrives, Ben is nowhere to be found. As the hours go by she gets more and more worried. She gets access to his apartment and when he is still not home in the morning she starts to ask around. What Jess uncovers is something sinister and very illegal. The people in the building are also not who they seem. What was Ben doing living in this posh building in Paris? What was he working on?
The chapters are told from varying points of view, from Jess, Nick, the concierge, Sophie, and Mimi. I really liked the story and the characters, however the story seemed to drag on as Jess tries to uncover clues about her brother’s disappearance. It takes forever to get to the climax of the book and the whole time there is a dreadful feeling that something bad is going to happen to Jess. The story has a great twist at the end that readers will find thrilling and which may almost make up for the slow middle of the book.
