The Madness: A Novel: A captivating tale of suspense and horror in Wales
Mina Murray’s estranged friend, Lucy, emails her out of the blue, asking for help. Something’s wrong with her and she doesn’t know where else to turn. Lucy’s symptoms are similar to a current patient of Mina’s, so she returns home to help her friend and face the demons of her past. Mina is about to discover that hundreds of women have met this same fate over the years and this goes deeper than just The Madness taking them over. Mina will have to conquer her own fears if she is to stop this man, or monster.
An interesting twist on the classic tale of Dracula. Most of the names remain the same, but many characters were changed to women and it takes place in modern day. I thought the most fascinating part was the Welsh traditions, perspectives, and language woven throughout. If you are a fan of vampire lore, the supernatural or just Dracula in general, this is a good book to add to your collection. Nothing fancy or extremely shocking, plot-wise, but still noteworthy none the less.
