The Daily Artist’s Way: 366 Meditations for Creative Living
As a fan of Julia Cameron’s 1992 book The Artist’s Way, I was thrilled to discover this new offering from her. The Daily Artist’s Way is a collection of 366 meditations–she’s got Leap Year covered–to help artists of all levels become more in touch with their craft.
Each day begins with a quotation that could be written about or used as inspiration. Cameron has chosen a wide variety of writers to work with here, so there’s really something for everyone. It isn’t a quick read; as I worked through it for this review, I wanted to slow down and savor the points and the observations, particularly those that resonate with me as a writer who often finds it hard to write.
Some ideas felt a bit repetitive, but that is the nature of the creative process. Sometimes repetition reveals something that was hidden before. The core principle of Morning Pages that Cameron encourages is the practice that would likely be most beneficial to anyone trying to find their voice.
Overall, The Daily Artist’s Way is another tool from Cameron to bring your creativity back into alignment and focus, and a great asset to begin your own conscious creativity practice.
