Rook (Jackaby)
The battle may be over, that doesn’t mean there’s peace on the streets of New Fiddleham, New England. Abigail Rook is not ready to step into her mentors shoes, but no one else has the Sight, the ability to see the auras of everyone and everything, from matches to fairies to ordinary humans. New Fiddleham won’t wait for her to be ready, so Rook has no choice but to jump head first into finding missing supernatural beings, especially when someone she cares about is charged and confesses to murder. Oh, and her parents decide it’s the perfect time to visit. Can it possibly get worse?
In this standalone set in the same world as the Jackaby books, you can expect a fast-paced, intriguing mystery with twists that make it impossible to put down. Rook really can be read as a standalone, anything that happened in the other books that’s important is explained. There are a couple things that will be spoiled if you haven’t read them and I feel a little cheated on seeing the relationships already completed. So, you could read it as a standalone, but I wish I’d read the others first. Rook spends much of the time doubting herself yet I could see her confidence grow, she is an amazing protagonist.
