Falls to Pieces
Falls to Pieces by Douglas Corleone starts off exciting with a young girl named Zoe narrating the book. She’s worried about her mother and someone named Eddie. The book is mostly narrated by Zoe’s mother, Kati and we find out that Eddie is Kati’s fianceé. We also find out that Kati and Zoe ran from Kati’s ex-husband/Zoe’s father, Jeremy and are actually in hiding on the island of Maui. The story gets more exciting as Kati and Eddie’s business partner, Noah, try to figure out what happened to Eddie. Then, we are introduced to Mac, an old friend of Kati’s who she often seeks out to help her. He’s an older man who always seems to be there for Kati and Zoe.
This book had so much promise. From the intriguing characters and their secrets to the beautiful landscape of Maui where Eddie and Kati went hiking and swimming. I don’t know what went wrong, but halfway through the story I became very bored. It seemed like things were going in circles—no one was getting anywhere with anything and Kati kept saying she thought it was Jeremy who was after them. The twist at the end was a good one, however, it could have been presented in a better way. The story kind of fell flat by the time I got to the end.
