Delicious Monsters
Daisy can see ghosts. Most of the time, she can ignore them and go on with her life. When her boyfriend suddenly dumps her, and her mother inherits a mansion, Daisy makes the choice to leave everything behind and make a fresh start in the middle of nowhere by turning the mansion into a bed and breakfast. It’s not that simple, of course. The ghosts are oddly attracted to the mansion, Daisy is forbidden to set foot inside, and when a guest dies, she knows she has to figure out what’s going on before it’s too late.
The story is told from two different times; when Daisy and her mom move to the mansion and ten years later, when two college students choose the mansion and Daisy as the topic of their popular web series. At first, the switching between times was weird and a little off-putting, but the focus was on Daisy, and none of her stories were spoiled. If anything, the future investigation added to the mystery. At the beginning of the book, there are content warnings, and any author who puts those in earns points from me. The only thing that wasn’t in them was that there was a lot of heavy cussing throughout.
